NIGO – Ape Sounds
This is a super rare Vinyl release from NIGO, the man behind streetwear brand “A Bathing Ape”.
The album was originally released on the now defunct Mo Wax label in 2000, and features appearances from Money Mark and Shawn Lee to name a few.
Jay Purcell featured this record as his album of the week on ACETATE.
In 2000, Nigo quietly produced and released an album, called “Ape Sounds.” This was well before he was a cult figure in the United States: Nigo was still establishing himself in the D.I.Y. fashion scene in Harajuku, and was around half a decade away from earning loyal A-list fans, such as Pharrell.
The sound of this album can best be described as a journey through some kind of Japanese, breakbeat, hip-hop, kung-fu escapade with a bit of grunge thrown in.
